OTC Juniors: Arbor Care Junior Tournament

A further developement regarding our junior tournament scheduled for February 13-14, 2016 ...

I have added U18s in both doubles and singles to the draws as we have some juniors in that age bracket.

OTC Juniors: Merry Xmas

Wishing you all a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

A reminder that Wednesday Club Coaching begins again for Term 1 on February 3, 2016.

A reminder that Saturday Hotshots Club Coaching begins again for Term 1 on February 20, 2016.

The late start is due to our Seniors' tournament that will be held on the weekend of February 6-7, 2016 and our Arbor Care Juniors' tournament that will be held the weekend of February 13-14, 2016.

We will hold 2 extra Hotshots Club Coaching sessions on Friday February 5 and Friday February 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 (for our Red Stage 9 o'clock kids), from 4:30 to 5:30 (for our Orange Stage 10 o'clock kids) AND 5:30 to 6:30 (for our Green Stage 11 o'clock kids).

OTC Juniors: Junior Club Tennis - Dec 12 & 19

Hi ,

Pre-Xmas junior interclub finished yesterday. Congratulations to all of our team players and thanks a million to all of our team managers.

To give our interclub kids an opportunity to play more tennis, we will have club tennis sessions at the club for you on December 12 and December 19 from 9:00am til 12:00pm. Come for all or part ... up to you!

NOTE: Jason will still be conducting his Hotshots Club Coaching sessions on courts 5-8 as usual.

I will put your names up the white board and make up singles and/or doubles matches based on the players attending.

Matches will be 20 minutes and end with the bell. You will then return to the board and see what your next match and court assignment will be. We will be using courts 1 to 4 and 9 to 12 for this.

Also, December is our Xmas breakup. Jason will have fun tennis for the Hotshots kids and there will be a sausage sizzle and drinks for everybody.

Everyone is welcome! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Ladies Premier Interclub Match Tomorrow, 14th Nov.

Hello Junior,

The Mount Maunganui/Otumoetai Ladies Regional Premier Interclub team will be playing their match tomorrow vs. Cambridge at the Otumoetai courts, starting approximately at 1 pm (at the completion of the Junior Interclub matches). Come out and support the ladies, and play some social tennis also at Senior Club Day.

Ashleigh Harvey, an Otumoetai member, will be playing tomorrow. Ashleigh recently won the NZ 16's competition for a spot in a WTA Futures competition in Singapore, where she finished 9th in her competition.

OTC Juniors: Pre-Xmas Interclub Update

We had the seeding meeting last night which was attended by representatives from each tennis club. I would like to assure you that a lot of effort was put into placing teams into the correct divisions.

Thanks to those parents that have volunteered to be Team Managers. For those teams I did not have 1 for, I listed 1 of the parents. Remember, no Team Manager, no team. Please parents, I am hoping that you will work together. I give you all the information/requirements/assistance/enter winning results into Configure Rankings. It is not difficult.

I will be giving balls/team packs/club shirts out next Wednesday October 28.

I will send out further details re draws etc for this competition that begins October 31, AS SOON AS these have been organized by Tennis Waikato Bays.

OTC Juniors: Junior Pre-Xmas Interclub

Hi ,

A reminder that it is time for you to be signing up to play Pre-Xmas Junior Interclub.

This competition starts on October 31 and ends on December 19. It is a 7-week competition with no matches scheduled for December 12 because of a Waikato Junior Tournament.

I will need your names by Friday October 16 so that the teams can be organized and given to Tennis Waikato Bays by Monday October 19. The sooner the better. There is a signup sheet on the Junior Notceboard.

Matches are not just played at OTC. They are played at the various WBOP Clubs. Each team plays 2 doubles and 4 singles per week.

We also need Team Managers; 1 per team. FYI, I will give you any assistance you need. It is not as tricky as it might sound. I will get you all together before the competition starts to hand out team packs which include scoresheets, rules, score cards, stationery and discuss draws etc. Balls are also provided by the club.

There is no cost to players. It is mandatory however that you not only enjoy playing tennis with your team members BUT that you also enjoy playing tennis with your team members!

Parents ... if you are not sure whether your child/ren are ready for interclub, please do not hesitate to contact either Jason or myself.

How do we organize which player goes into which team and which team goes into which Division?

There are a number of Divisions. Pre-Xmas last year had 7 Divisions. Our OTC Teams are made up of players of similar playing ability and our teams are placed in divisions made up of teams of similar playing ability. We do not and will not agree to put a team into a division just to make up the numbers. No one gains from being thumped or winning easily each week.

All interclub kids come to Terms 4 and 1 club coaching on a Wednesday afternoon.

For those players who have been coming along to Saturday morning Hotshots Club Coaching for a while, you might want to think about also playing interclub. There is a "beginner" Hotshots Grade for those 8-10 year olds that want to start playing matches. Again, teams play 2 doubles and 4 singles matches. All matches are played to 6 and green dot balls (slightly softer) are used.

NOTE: For those of you who may have received notification from Beth Hughes re a Junior Premier Regional Interclub competition, it was decided last night that this competition has been cancelled.

A further reminder that we will be having our Junior Open Days for the 2015 to 2016 tennis season as follows:

Saturday September 12 from 10 to 12
Wednesday September 23 from 3:30 to 5:30
Saturday September 26 from 10 to 12

This would be a good time to sign up for Pre-Xmas Junior Interclub. This competition begins on October 31 and will end on December 19 (NOTE: No interclub matches on December 12 because of a Waikato Junior Tournament).

You are welcome to come down for some, part or all of these sessions and bring your friends too! There is no cost.

Jason will be there and will have you out on the court. I will be on hand to provide you and your parents with more information.

Jason has a limited number of racquets for you to use if you do not have your own. Please make sure you are wearing suitable sports footwear and comfortable sports attire.

Please Note:
1. Membership Fees are due October 1.
2. Term 4 Wednesday Club Coaching begins on October 14, 2015.
3. Term 4 Saturday Club Coaching begins on October 17, 2015.

OTC Juniors: Sponsorship for our Junior Tournament

Hi Junior Members,

This message is for your parents …

We are looking for potential sponsors for our Junior Tournament known as the OTC Legacy Junior Tournament that we hold in February each year.

We have been unsuccessful with our recent requests for Legacy Funerals sponsorship of our OTC tournaments and we are therefore looking for possible alternatives.

Legacy Funerals has sponsored our 2-day junior tournament by providing us with $1,000 which was used for cash prize money and medals. Our last 2 junior tournaments each had nearly 90 entries. Our entries also included players from Hawkes Bay, Auckland and Waikato. It is a popular tournament. Our next junior tournament is scheduled for February 13 and 14, 2016.

If you know of potential sponsors perhaps through your employment or business associations, please get in touch with me. Any contribution helps and will be appreciated.

2015 Friday Night Interclub

Hello ,

The 2015 Friday Night Interclub competition has been announced. Play will start on Friday, 2nd October 2015. The formats will be same as last year, with Men's A Grade (singles and doubles), Men's Doubles and Ladies Doubles. Teams are limited to 6 players. Anyone playing in the Regional Premier Interclub competition on Saturdays is also eligible to play in Friday Night Interclub.
If you are interested in playing Friday Night Interclub, please put your name/phone number on the sign-up sheet posted on the Senior Bulletin Board downstairs in the Clubhouse, or contact Fred at 544-5088. Players can request a team roster, but final decisions can only be made after a meeting of propsective team captains.
Team Rosters must be submitted by 8th Sept., so please indicate your interest by Friday, 4th Sept.
Juniors of suitable experience/maturity are eligible to play in this competition. Please check with Jason, Club Coach, if you have a question about suitability for this competition.

Yes, the weather is warming up (I think) which means it is time to start thinking TENNIS TENNIS TENNIS, so I am just letting you know that we will be having our Junior Open Days for the 2015 to 2016 tennis season as follows:

I hope you enjoyed our Junior Prize Giving last Saturday that followed the Fun Tennis that Jason organized. It was great to see so many smiling faces.

OTC Juniors: Fun Tennis & Prize Giving Reminder

Hi Junior Members,

A reminder that tomorrow, we will be having fun tennis and our Junior Prize Giving to mark the end of organized junior tennis here at the club AND also celebrate your achievements. ALL junior members are welcome.

Fun tennis begins at 9:00. Come when you can.

The Prize Giving will follow starting at 11:30 and will last for about 1/2 an hour. We will have a sausage sizzle and drinks for you directly after this Prize Giving. Again, ALL junior members are welcome. Please bring a plate. If you have proud family members that would like to come along, they are also welcome.

I will need volunteers please to help with cooking the sausages and with the food.

I realize that not all of you will be able to attend as you have other school holiday plans. No worries. If you can't attend and will be receiving an award, I'll be in contact with you after the weekend to get your prizes to you.

The ever popular WBOP Winter Teams Competition begins next term on Friday 24th April.

It is open to all juniors in WBOP. The competition has ten graded teams of four players, with each team member playing one singles and one doubles match every Friday might.

OTC Juniors: Prizegiving Prizes

Hi Junior Members,

This email is directed at our parents …

With the Junior Prizegiving scheduled for April 11, I am asking if any of you work for, OR own businesses that would be willing to sponsor/donate prizes for our Junior Prizegiving.

Our club is generous in that it provides cash prizes for the Club Champs for Champion, Runner Up and Consolation Winners. Our club also provides the sausage sizzle and drinks for all attendees. This is in addition to the certificates and trophies that are engraved.

Jason has once again approached Babolat for prizes and in the past they have been generous in this regard although, there are not always enough for each awardee to receive something.

So, if you are able to help out or for further information, please contact me. All contributions would be gratefully appreciated.

OTC Juniors: Extra Hotshots Coaching Sessions

Hi Junior Members,

This is to you remind you of our ADDITIONAL Hotshots Coaching sessions (for those of you that come along for coaching on a Saturday morning).

The first will be tomorrow Friday March 13. The second will be next week on Friday March 20.

Times:
Red Stage: 3:30 to 4:30 (The Sat 9 oclock session)
Orange Stage: 4:30 to 5:30 (The Sat 10 oclock session)
Green Stage: 5:30 to 6:30 (The Sat 11 oclock session)

There will still be Saturday Hotshots sessions on Saturday March 14 and Saturday March 21.

2014-15 Club Champs Men's/Ladies Doubles

Hello ,

The Club Champs Men's and Ladies Doubles for 2014-15 will be held on 14th and 15th (if necessary) March 2015. Starting time is 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. To encourage more participation, we will also have a "Social Grade", in addition to the regular Competitive Grade.

A Sign-up Sheet will be posted on the Senior Bulletin Board in the Clubhouse downstairs area tomorrow. If you wish to enter, please put your names on the Sign-up Sheet, or e-mail/call Fred at clubcaptain@otumoetaitennis.co.nz/544-5088.

Juniors of suitable ability are eligible and encouraged to enter this competition - if you have a question about whether this is for you, please ask Fred or Jason.

Another tourney has come and gone ... PHEW! Congratulations to all of our competitors.

Congratulations to Boys 14 Singles Champion Caelan Potts who played an awesome match to beat Teiki Sydney from Matamata.

I must also thank Senior Committee members Viv Jones and his wife Jenny, Fred Kleve and Sue Nunn and Warwick Brew.

Mixed Doubles Club Champs Re-scheduled

Hello ,

We have to delay the 2014-15 Otumoetai Club Champs Mixed Doubles to the following weekend, 28th February/1st March. This will both ensure we have sufficient courts (Otumoetai will host a Men's Regional Premier Interclub match on 21st February), and also allow players involved in the Regional Premier Interclub play to enter the Club Champs. The Men's/Ladies Doubles Club Champs remain 14th/15th March.

If you want to enter the Mixed Doubles Club Champs, please sign up on the sheet on the Seniors Board in the clubhouse foyer, call Fred at 544-5088, or send an e-mail to clubcaptain@otumoetaitennis.co.nz.

Tennis Courts Unavailable This Weekend

Hello ,

OTC is holding its annual Juniors Tournament this weekend, so the tennis courts will be unavailable for casual play on both Saturday and Sunday from 8:15 am to probably about 6 pm on Saturday and 5 pm on Sunday.

Ths means that there will be no Senior Club Day tennis this weekend.

OTC Juniors: Legacy Tourney - Help Wanted PLZ

Hi Junior Members,

We are on the count down to the start of our Legacy Junior Tournament which is being held this weekend February 14 and 15.

I am after parents to help with this tournament. I have had some offers from Grant Schuler, Harjit Singh Rai and a couple of our senior committee members (gratefully appreciated), BUT I can't do everything else myself.

I'm after some help ...
1. In the kitchen preparing/selling food/juicies/drinks/lollie bags/fruit. I'll have all the kitchen requirements bought though. Preparation and selling would be a big help.
2. Putting up umbrellas and making sure club chairs are brought back to the club house.
3. Club house upstairs tables/chairs are litter-free.
4. Anything else you can think of that you can do for our tournament that will help it to run smoothly.

If you can help, please let me know.

We have entries from as far away as Napier, New Plymouth and Auckland. 82 players in total.

A reminder that because OTC will host 2 tournaments (1 Seniors and 1 Juniors) on February 6-7 and 14-15, Saturday morning Hotshots Club Coaching will not begin for Term 1 until Saturday February 21.

2014-15 OTC Club Championships

The Club Championships for 2014-15 will start with the Mixed Doubles on Sat/Sun, 21st/22nd Feb, starting at 1 pm. We will try to complete play on Sat, but MAY not be able to, depending on numbers of entries. Senior Club Day Tennis/Courts Availability

Hello ,

Tomorrow, 31st Jan, the Otumoetai/Mount team will be hosting the last round-robin match in the Men's Regional Premier competition. Senior Club Day activities will be as usual, with Regional Premier match using the Plexicushion courts. There will be no free courts for casual play until after 4:00 pm.

Next weekend, Senior Club Day will be on Sunday, 8th February, as the courts will be full on Friday/Saturday, 6th/7th February, with the Waitangi Weekend Tournament competition. Again, there will be no free courts for casual play on Friday/Saturday next weekend until after 4:30-5:00 pm.
