Further to the email I sent out on August 17, the following is a summary of the format (all grades) for the 2014 to 2015 season which will begin with Pre-Xmas Junior Interclub starting on November 1, 2014 and run for 8 weeks finishing with finals on December 20, 2014.
Format – Premier Grade/Mixed Teams
It has been decided to move to a grade-based teams competition for our premier-level juniors in the WBOP/BOP region; a change from the club-based teams we currently have. It is hoped that the revised format will provide a higher standard of competition.
(PLEASE NOTE (JULIA): I don't know how the costs for this competition will be met, who the organizers/selectors are for this competition, if the clubs will be involved in providing candidates for the selection process or when the invitation process will begin.)
Competition Format & Participation
• Grade-based, team competition, played weekly.
• Mixed-gender competition.
• Round robin format with 6 rounds, followed by semis and finals.
• Competition organisers will select 20 juniors from the WBOP/BOP Region.
• Selected juniors will be extend an invitation, to play in the Premier Grade competition.
Selection Criteria
Entry to the completion is by invitation only using the following criteria:
1. Tennis Ability – Players will likely have an S9 ConfigureRankings Grade or above.
2. Players will likely be aged 12 years or older.
3. WBOP Regional Coach discretion.
4. Players need to accept the offer to play in the Premier Grade competition.
Teams
• There will be 4 teams of 5 players.
• Competition organisers will place players into 4 balanced teams, each with 5 members.
• Teams can be mixed-gender.
Venue
• Hosted at one venue.
• All matches to be played at the WBOP Tennis Centre, Papamoa.
Format – Boys Divisions 1 to 6, Girls Divisions 1 to 4, Gallaghers Grade/Mixed Teams
NOTE: the format for these competitions hasn't changed and is the same as last year.
Competition Format & Participation
• Club-based, team/interclub competition, played weekly.
• Open to club teams from the WBOP/BOP Region.
• Tennis clubs select players/enter teams in the competition.
• Separate boys and girls divisions, except Gallaghers grade which is a mixed-gender.
• Likely to be a round robin format with 6 rounds, followed by semis and finals – BUT the ultimate format will depend on the number of entries received for each division.
Teams
• Competition organisers will grade teams/place into divisions – with 4 teams in each division where possible.
• Teams may list up to 10 players, but only 4 members can play in a contest on the day.
• Only Gallaghers grade is mixed-gender.
Venue
• Club Hosted.
• Some matches may be scheduled at the WBOP Tennis Centre, Papamoa.
