The Otumoetai Tennis Club courts will be unavailable for casual play on Friday, 2nd Jan (up to approx. 1:30 pm) and Saturday, 3rd Jan (up to approx. 3:30 pm). The courts have been reserved for the WBOP Seniors Jan Open Tournament singles (Fri) and Doubles (Sat).

OTC Juniors: Saturday Hotshots Club Coaching

Hi Junior Members,

A reminder that Saturday morning Hotshots Club Coaching ends for the year on Saturday December 20, 2014. In addition to the coaching sessions, we will have a sausage sizzle and drink for the kids to celebrate the festive season.

OTC Juniors: Configure Rankings/Ladder Info

Hi Junior Members,

This email is being sent to all OTC Juniors.

I have had a number of questions on Configure Rankings.

Configure Rankings is a Grading List of all competitive tennis players in New Zealand. All players, regardless of age, are in the same list, however there are separate lists for males and females.

Internet access is required. Please talk with your parents FIRST or ask them to help you.

For an overview on Configure Rankings go to www.tenniswaikatobays.co.nz and on the left hand side, there is a list in purple ... select ConfigureRankings Overview.

How do you find out how you are ranked in Configure Rankings?

Under Popular Links on the Tennis Waikato Bays website ... select Configure Rankings and enter your Surname, Gender and Club. (Otumoetai is listed)

If you are a competitive tennis player ... ie. you play interclub or you enter tournaments in which those tournament results are entered into Configure Rankings, your name should show up.

How does Configure Rankings relate to the Junior Tennis Ladder? There is no direct link (ladder results will not be entered). We have done our best to organize the order. The aim is get you playing more competitive tennis so that you can demonstrate your prowess and progress. As you can imagine, keeping track of every competitive match you have all played outside of the club is not easy. Like I said, we have done our best. Results will be used to form Post-Xmas Interclub teams and seedings for Club Champs and our Legacy OTC Tournament in February.

Jason has advised that if you have played a fellow club member in interclub or tournaments this season, these results will count re the ladder. Give him the details of your results at club coaching.

So kids, if you have any questions regarding the Junior Ladder, please talk to Jason at club coaching.

1. INTERCLUB: If you want to play interclub, please have your names on the notice board at the clubhouse OR to me by phone 544 5088 or email juniors@otumoetaitennis.co.nz by tomorrow. Team Managers also required. No Team Manager = no team. Competition begins on November 1.

2. WEDNESDAY CLUB COACHING: This starts again this coming Wednesday October 15, 2014. Sessions are 3:30 to 5:00, 5:00 to 6:30 and 6:30 to 8:00.
UNLESS OTHERWISE ADVISED:
(A) RETURNING MEMBERS: Please plan on attending the session you attended last season. (B) NEW MEMBERS: Call me on 544 5088 or plan on attending either the 3:30 or 5:00 session.

3. SATURDAY MORNING HOTSHOTS CLUB COACHING: This starts on Saturday October 18, 2014.

Club Day Start Time & Friday Night Interclub Play

Hello Junior Members,

Starting tomorrow, 4th October, and continuing throughout the spring/summer period, Saturday Senior Club Day starting time will be 1:30 pm.

Also, the Senior Friday Night Interclub competition starts tonight, and continue until mid-December. As a result, court availability for casual play on Friday evenings from 5:30 pm onwards will be very limited, or possibly non-existent, depending of the match schedules.

OTC Juniors: Pre-Xmas Interclub

Hi Junior Members,

Several of you came by the courts yesterday to have a hit and attend coaching sessions ... it was nice to see you out on the courts again.

And, we had several new members drop by too. Welcome! We hope you enjoy playing tennis at our club.

Pre-Xmas Interclub ...

This begins on November 1 and could last up until December 20. (dependant on number of teams). I have put a signup sheet on the noticeboard OR you can let me know by email if you want to play. Some of you already have. You will need to let me know by October 13.

IMPORTANT! If you know that you will NOT be able to play every week, please can you let me know this as we will need to make sure there are enough players on the team rosters to cover.

We will also be needing Team Managers as all teams must have a Team Manager.

If you haven't played interclub before and want to give it a go but are not sure, please speak to Jason or myself.

OTC Juniors: Membership Info

Hi Junior Members,

Just letting you know some membership information…
1. Membership Fees for the upcoming 2014 to 2015 season will stay the same as last year. The new season begins on October 1.

2. I am attaching the updated membership forms in both PDF and MS Word, for our 2014 to 2015 season.
If you know you are not going to re-register, please kindly respond to this email letting me know this … no explanations required. I will then take you off the membership list prior to the invoices being distributed.

3. There are changes to some of our membership definitions

a. The "Intermediate" category has been renamed as "Student". A "Student" is defined as being 19 years of age or over and under 25 years of age as of December 31 in the current season and in full time attendance at a tertiary institution.

b. The "Junior" category age-limits has changed. A "Junior" is defined as being 5 years or over and under 19 years at December 31 or the current season, except at the discretion of the Main Committee.

Club AGM, Regional Premier Interclub

Hello ,

Just a quick reminder that Otumoetai Tennis Club's AGM is tomorrow, 6th September, starting at 3:30 pm in the Clubhouse. Members are encouraged to attend.

Also, the 2014 Waikato-Bays Regional Premier Interclub competition will start tomorrow. This new, bi-weekly, competition has 10 Men's and 7 Ladies Divisions for teams from Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley, Waikato and Western Bay of Plenty. Otumoetai has joined with Mount Maunganui for both the Ladies and Men's teams. The Men's team has a home match versus Whakatane tomorrow at Otumoetai, at 1:00 pm, weather cooperating.

OTC Juniors: Junior Interclub Update

Hi Junior Members,

Further to the email I sent out on August 17, the following is a summary of the format (all grades) for the 2014 to 2015 season which will begin with Pre-Xmas Junior Interclub starting on November 1, 2014 and run for 8 weeks finishing with finals on December 20, 2014.

Format – Premier Grade/Mixed Teams
It has been decided to move to a grade-based teams competition for our premier-level juniors in the WBOP/BOP region; a change from the club-based teams we currently have. It is hoped that the revised format will provide a higher standard of competition.

(PLEASE NOTE (JULIA): I don't know how the costs for this competition will be met, who the organizers/selectors are for this competition, if the clubs will be involved in providing candidates for the selection process or when the invitation process will begin.)

Competition Format & Participation
• Grade-based, team competition, played weekly.
• Mixed-gender competition.
• Round robin format with 6 rounds, followed by semis and finals.
• Competition organisers will select 20 juniors from the WBOP/BOP Region.
• Selected juniors will be extend an invitation, to play in the Premier Grade competition.

Selection Criteria
Entry to the completion is by invitation only using the following criteria:
1. Tennis Ability – Players will likely have an S9 ConfigureRankings Grade or above.
2. Players will likely be aged 12 years or older.
3. WBOP Regional Coach discretion.
4. Players need to accept the offer to play in the Premier Grade competition.

Teams
• There will be 4 teams of 5 players.
• Competition organisers will place players into 4 balanced teams, each with 5 members.
• Teams can be mixed-gender.

Venue
• Hosted at one venue.
• All matches to be played at the WBOP Tennis Centre, Papamoa.

Format – Boys Divisions 1 to 6, Girls Divisions 1 to 4, Gallaghers Grade/Mixed Teams

NOTE: the format for these competitions hasn't changed and is the same as last year.

Competition Format & Participation
• Club-based, team/interclub competition, played weekly.
• Open to club teams from the WBOP/BOP Region.
• Tennis clubs select players/enter teams in the competition.
• Separate boys and girls divisions, except Gallaghers grade which is a mixed-gender.
• Likely to be a round robin format with 6 rounds, followed by semis and finals – BUT the ultimate format will depend on the number of entries received for each division.

Teams
• Competition organisers will grade teams/place into divisions – with 4 teams in each division where possible.
• Teams may list up to 10 players, but only 4 members can play in a contest on the day.
• Only Gallaghers grade is mixed-gender.

Venue
• Club Hosted.
• Some matches may be scheduled at the WBOP Tennis Centre, Papamoa.

2014 Friday Night Senior Interclub

Hello ,

The 2014 Friday Night Senior Interclub competition has been announced. Play will start Friday, 3rd October. The competition formats this year include Men's A Division (singles and doubles), Men's Doubles and Ladies Doubles. Team Rosters are limited to 6 players this year. Those playing Regional Premier Interclub are also eligible to play in the Friday Night competition if they wish.

A sign-up notice has been placed on the Senior Bulletin Board in the clubhouse. All interested players are requested to add their name/phone number; requested teams will be accommodated as much as possible, while also ensuring all those interested in playing are included. Team Rosters must be submitted by 15th September.

Junior members of a suitable standard are eligible to play in this competition.

On Saturday I received an email from Anita (Tennis Waikato Bays) regarding proposed changes to the junior premier interclub format for the 2014 to 2015 season.

In brief, this proposal (which was discussed at the last WBOP Club's meeting) will see junior premier interclub moving from a club-based team format to a grade-based team format. Why? Because there was an absence of competition in this grade, which was particularly evident for the boys last season. It was also suggested that teams could include both boys and girls which would provide stronger competition for our girls as they could be playing mixed doubles.

The details have not yet been determined (ie. who determines who is eligible to play etc) BUT if you have thoughts/feedback regarding this issue, please can you let me know by Wednesday morning so I can provide our feedback to Anita by Wednesday evening (juniors@otumoetaitennis.co.nz).

I am particularly interested to know how our OTC premier kids would feel about playing in mixed-gender teams. Personally, I can't see any problems but it has been a long long time since I was that age nor am I a parent and I would rather provide feedback based on what is actual.

Help Urgently Needed

Hello ,

YOUR Club urgently needs some additional kitchen help this Saturday and Sunday at our Legacy Funerals Queen's Birthday Tournament. 6 of the original volunteers have had to drop out last night due to family health issues and/or unexpected work commitments. Food is provided to the players at this tournament as part of their entry fees, and we always have gotten VERY positive feedback on our food service.

Clbu Day Tennis Start Time and Seniors Prizegiving

Help Urgently Needed

Hi ,

Your tennis club urgently needs some additional volunteers to help with kitchen/catering for the Tennis Seniors New Zealand National Teams Event being held in Tauranga on 18th-20 April. 24 teams will be playing every day at our Otumoetai courts. We ae providing catering - sandwiches, fruit, slices coffee/tea, etc. - for the players as part of our fundraising. Some of our original volunteers have had to withdraw due to family considerations, so we need a few more people to help for a 3-hour shift. All volunteers - players, parents, teenagers - are welcome.

Attached is a summary of the prizes that were awarded and achievements recognized at our OTC Prizegiving yesterday.

Congratulations to all of our junior membership for being great ambassadors for our tennis club, and I look forward to seeing you all when the next season begins on October 1.

Otumoetai Tennis Juniors: Fun Tennis & Prizegiving

A Reminder that on Saturday April 12, we will celebrate the end of organized tennis (Wednesday Club Coaching and Saturday Hotshots Club Coaching) at OTC for the 2013 to 2014 season with fun tennis for all juniors starting at 9:00am.

At 11:00am, we will hold our OTC Junior prizegiving, which is expected to last about an hour.

Please bring a plate. A sausage sizzle and drinks will be provided.

If the weather is bad, we will still hold our junior prizegiving at 11:00am.

Your Juniors are especially welcome to take part in a 'age group coaching session' which will run over as many courts as required and will see Marina interfacing with each group by rotation. The entry fee of $5 covers this opportunity.

Please also note the opportunity for anyone to play with Marina in one of two doubles rubbers at 12.00pm. Six slots are available and each of these will be auctioned at 11.30am by Bayleys Real Estate. Opening bids will be set at $50 with all proceeds from the day going towards our Clubhouse Renovation Project.

With no calendar yet being 'announced' for the WBOP clubs to hold their Club Champs, we can't wait any longer, and therefore have picked our dates:

Mixed Doubles Club Champs 22nd/23rd February Men's/Ladies Doubles Club Champs 15th/16th March
Men's/Ladies Singles 12th/13th April

These dates are also being used by Tga Lawn, so at least 2 largest WBOP clubs will be consistent. A sign-up sheet for the Mixed Doubles will be posted on our Bulletin Board tomorrow.
